Firefox 2 Browser Review
Mozilla FireFox 2 has some great features, some which were not in the previous version. If you're still in the 1.x series, I highly recommend you upgrade. A very useful new feature would be the integrated spell checker. In our experience we can say that it's not 100% perfect as not every single word is in it, but for the most part it gets the job done well. If you post on online forums or write a lot of e-mails this feature comes in handy. Now you don't have to resort to an external tool to check your spelling. However, keep in mind that it will not pick up grammar typos. For example if you type here instead of hear, it won't pick that up. It's just a spell checker, it doesn't really check grammar.
FireFox previously had tabbed browsing, so this is nothing new. However, it has been improved in the new version. By default, web pages will be opened in a new tab. Aside from that there's the handy session restore feature. If FireFox closes or restarts all of the sudden, you'll have the option of restoring your previous session. So if you had a YouTube video open, along with the weather forecast, you'll be able to access it once again. This comes in handy if your PC freezes or if you exit the browser by accident.
Also if you need to search some info on a popular site such as Yahoo or Google you can easily do it via FireFox by simply typing it in the search field usually located on the upper right hand corner. You can even search for items on eBay or Amazon with it. And speaking of eBay and Amazon, these sites are often phishing targets. (Phishing websites are deceptive websites that look like the real deal, except that they steal your password and data). Anyway, FireFox 2 protects you against most of these websites with it's built in Phishing Protection. Furthermore FireFox 2 offers other security features such as effective spyware protection by prompting you before downloading any software. This helps stop malicious software from downloading. You also don't have to worry about checking for updates manually as FireFox 2 will automatically alert you of newer versions. The automated update system makes the update process hassle free. And another nice feature is that you can easily clear your private data. You just have to go to Tools and select Clear Private Data. You will then be prompted to choose what you want to delete, and what you'll keep. By deleting browsing history, you'll delete all the websites you've visited. This comes in handy for when you've typed quite a few website typos, and by clearing the browsing history, these typo websites will no longer show up. However, keep in mind that every other website you visited will be deleted as well. So add all the interesting websites you encounter to your favorites.
As for add-ons, FireFox 2 has a lot to offer. From
adding new features to simply changing the look of your browser it's all possible.
There are all sorts of themes available, and if you're a sports fan there's a good
chance that there's a theme for your favorite theme. Also if your a Yankees fan,
there's definitely a theme out there for you. You can get it for free at https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/5499
And getting back to the spell checker tool, there's also more dictionaries that
you can add which will come in handy if you type in other languages besides English
such as Spanish or German. Go to https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/browse/type:3
to download a dictionary for your other language. They support a lot of languages.
Spanish and German are just a small part of their huge selection. As for plugins
I highly recommend you install all of the ones found here: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/browse/type:7
Those are the most popular plugins that you may require. If you're on a government
website for instance your bound to require a PDF reader to download applications
or to read certain data. There's also a bunch of extensions to really enhance your
web browsing experience. Head over to https://addons.mozilla.org in
order to explore
other great add-ons that FireFox 2 has to offer.
